Maybe you’ve noticed an unusual flag flying from the St Peter’s Tower today. Red with 3 yellow lions couchant (crawling lengthwise).
It is the Royal Standard of King Henry III, flying today to mark the enactment of the Statutes of Marlborough at Marlborough Castle on 19 Nov 1267.
These Statutes extended the safeguards, privileges and responsibilities enshrined in Magna Carta to landowners below the rank of Baron.
