Marlborough Town Council’s planning committee voted through the application for a development of shops (or offices) and flats to replace the kitchen showroom in the Hilliers Yard car park.
The development in what is technically Crooks Yard was nodded through without discussion.
However, Councillor Lisa Farrell questioned whether these flats would help provide the affordable homes the town needs. She also asked whether these small incremental developments should not contribute to upgrading the town’s infrastructure.
It was pointed out that the development was too small to attract any provision of affordable homes.
The committee also approved the application to reduce the number of trees growing on the Marlborough Mound in the College grounds.
And councillors heard that at their next meeting the Crown Estate would be giving ‘an update’ about the 200-plus homes planned on their land off the Salisbury Road opposite the Tesco roundabout.
