The motion to rescind the increased allowances approved last November was defeated by 60 votes to 24 with six abstentions, council leader Jane Scott leading the opposition.
Marlborough independent councillor Nick Fogg voted for the motion, his Marlborough Conservative counterpart, Stewart Dobson, abstained.
