Police investigating reports of an elaborate fraud along the M4 corridor have appealed to Good Samaritan motorists who stopped to help a stranded motorist to come forward with information.
They have fallen victim to a man carrying a green fuel can – he stands on various slip roads between junction 19 on the M4 and the junction 15 turn off to Swindon – who subsequently targets them for money with a spin story.
To date it is believed the offender has been able to acquire hundreds of pounds from victims, who are now asked to contact Detective Chris Feerick in Melksham on 101, alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police meanwhile have arrested a 44-year-old man from Bristol in connection with the incidents. He is currently on police bail pending further police inquiries.
