Joyce Ford, who is over eighty years old, was walking with two dogs last week in Stonebridge Meadow when she was stung by angry bees.
Being a fine day, she went on into the ‘Scrub Field’: “As I walked on I was in a world of my own.”
Then she saw a man working by a beehive – he was smoking out the bees. The bees were angry and she got stung on her face and ankle.
The man had nothing in his van for bee stings, so the friend she was with drove her to the Kennet Pharmacy.
“Stonebridge looks so beautiful – I’m not saying I agree or disagree with having beehives there. But he should have had a sign there to say he was working with the bees. It’s an accident waiting to happen.”
All was well that ended well: the sting on Mrs Ford’s face subsided in time for her granddaughter’s graduation ceremony.
