The Marlborough Area Board awarded grants of £650 for new exterior doors for Froxfield’s Memorial Hall and £2,500 towards updating instruments for the Phoenix Brass Band’s tenor horn section.
But when they came to the application from the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust for a £5,000 grant towards repairs to the boilers at Crofton Beam Engines, they hit a snag.
Although the Crofton Beam Engines are a popular attraction for local people and visiting tourists, they are not within the Marlborough Community Area.
So, although Wiltshire Councillors on the Area Board were in favour of the repair scheme, they were cautious about supporting such projects outside the area and approved a grant of £3,000 towards the work.
