Whilst the previous production of ‘The Rivals’ by the Miracle Theatre Company in Ogbourne Maizey took place on a dry and cold evening, this year’s performance (of ‘Peer Gynt – A comedy of Terrors!) – on Wednesday 24 June coincided with the recent June heatwave – a ‘hot’ performance in every sense…..
As Marion Gordon-Finlayson tells us: “Setting up in temperatures of 37 degrees in the afternoon was gruelling. The cast had a series of garden trugs full of water so they doused themselves with and had frequent hydration breaks! The actors requested they set up in shade and so we relocated to the car park field which worked just as well and meant we could enjoy so many beautiful “convertible” cars arrived through the gate! The performance was delayed half an hour to give us all time to enjoy picnics and cool down as the shadows lengthened.
“Miracle Theatre put on a great show – this year was a moral tale of misspent youth with a happy ending. We sold out of ice creams and the raffle prize of a bottle of French Champagne was won by a gentleman celebrating his Birthday! This year we made £1350 for our chosen charity donation to Read for Good.
We received some lovely feedback including:
- Thought the acting very good, and as always, use of stage so ingenious, loved the music
- Congratulations on a brilliantly organised event, so thoughtful of you to adjust the time and location at short notice
- We really enjoyed the production, one of the best in recent years!
- Best ever production over the years I’ve been coming
- This play is normally 3-4 hours long – a quite brilliant adaptation and editing”
