The Mayor’s Parlour at Marlborough Town hall is to undergo a refurbishment following the break in last October when the mayoral chain was stolen by thieves who entered the building through an underground trapdoor.
The council’s Property Committee agreed on the work last night (Monday) following a report from Shelley Parker, the town clerk, pointing out that already the damaged door to the Parlour and the carpet have been replaced, paid for by the council’s insurers.
“Members may feel that the Mayor’s Parlour should be re-decorated enabling it to become an area that could be used by the Mayor for meetings and for entertaining,” she said.
Committee members agreed and decided that the work should go ahead following consultation with the Mayor, Councillor Guy Loosmore, and his deputy.
