Four grants were agreed by the Marlborough Area Board on Tuesday evening (November 27.) The largest was to Marlborough Communities Market to buy new ‘modular umbrellas’ so more traders can join the monthly Sunday market.
Aldbourne Memorial Hall got £2,538 for a new cooker hood to meet regulations. Marlborough Bowls Club got £1,851 for a clubhouse floor fit for indoor bowls.
The most modest grant of the evening was for Broad Hinton Youth Club – a start-up project that will cater for young people from the village and four surrounding villages. Their £1,109 will cover twelve months hire of the village hall, youth workers for the first three months and some equipment.
You can see the communities market – if not the new umbrellas – in full ‘Christmas extravaganza’ flow on Thursday, November 29 as part of Marlborough’s annual Christmas lights night. It will be on the High Street from 3 pm till 8pm. The last market of the year will be on Sunday, December 16 from 11am.
“We will be able to put the new umbrellas up and take them down in just 15 minutes,” said Councillor Richard Pitts. “And the ones we have been using up till now will be available to the community to use.”
