This is an early warning of likely delays for drivers from and to Marlborough crossing or joining the M4 at Junction 15.
Work is finally due to start this September on improvements to the traffic flow at the M4’s Junction 15 – the roundabout linking the A346 with the A419. And it is expected that 15 to 18 months of work will create some big delays.
It was in October 2016 marlborough.news first reported that the upgrade to Junction 15 had been given the go ahead. Work had to wait until the major re-design of Junction 16 was finished.
The plan is to make a new protected lane for southbound A419 traffic which is turning east onto the M4. And to widen the A346 approach down Plough Hill at Chiseldon, for traffic going north from Marlborough – a choke point that is at present subject to long rush-hour queues.
The £9.5m project is being funded by a £5m government grant and £4.5m in Section 106 contributions from developers building nearby housing estates. Swindon Council Tax payers will not be paying anything towards the scheme.
