Sirs,
I am sure we are all sorry to hear that Tony Millett has stood down as a Director of Marlborough News (onetime Marlborough News Online). While he will be continuing to support the agency intermittently his intense involvement over the past 9 years, since MNO was founded by the late Gerald Isaaman, has been central to this vital, local media outlet.
Tony comes from a background of 30 years as a television journalist during which he worked for ITN’s News at Ten and subsequently as foreign editor, programme editor and then managing editor of Channel 4 News and editor of ITN’s World News.
Writing both as an individual and as a representative of organisations, e.g. Marlborough Brandt Group, Thriving Through Venture, “Brilliant Young International Musicians in St Peter’s Church”, which have all benefited hugely from the publicity given to their work over the years, I can only declare that to have had someone with this background experience and knowledge of the world of media reporting as a central figure in our local online news organisation has clearly been of vital importance.
We in Marlborough should be immensely grateful to all at Marlborough News, Neil Goodwin, Sue Round, Marina Rae and particularly at this time Tony Millett. Theirs is the only media outlet that keeps us properly aware, through their voluntary work, of such a diverse range of extraordinary activities within our town and beyond, activities to which many of us feel drawn.
Through their diverse reports on schools, horse racing, concerts, voluntary and charity activities and of course the measures that we are currently having to take to prevent the spread of coronavirus, they imbue a real sense of belonging for all of us who are privileged to live in this very special community of Marlborough and the surrounding villages.
Thank you Tony and thank you all at Marlborough News.
Yours,
Nick Maurice
