Sirs,
Great to have support from Colin and Graham to my earlier contribution about climate change. I do also have concerns about the proposed transition from fossil fuels. We are offered wind farms, solar panels ,electric cars, and hydrogen. Most wind farms are offshore. Corrosion in the marine environment is severe and I wonder how long these farms will last.
The minerals used in the manufacture of these items particularly rare earths, are often environmentally damaging to mine and the processing often very polluting. That’s why many are produced In China where such considerations are ignored. Electric cars are heavier than petrol/ diesel so tyre, brake and road surface wear will be greater.
Also, what about the carbon footprint from their manufacture? When thinking about hydrogen,I recall the pictures of the “Hindenburg” airship which was filled with hydrogen, exploding on arrival in New York.
So the net zero policy seems to be like out of the frying pan into the fire.
Yours,
Alan Oliver
