Sirs,
I was very disappointed to read the negative reaction to the proposal by the Rugby Club to have a third training area created on Marlborough Common.
The success of the Rugby Club is something that should be celebrated and supported.
It is a pleasure to see hundreds of young people on the Common at the weekend.
I can appreciate the concerns of the Model Flying Club who have been accommodated on the Common for many years but I cannot understand the objections of other groups.
Transition Marlborough object to the loss to healthy outdoor activity of a few acres when there are thousands of acres of Marlborough Downs for plants and insects : on whose behalf do they claim to be speaking ?
Transition Marlborough are not speaking for myself and my wife who enjoy walking on Marlborough Common. We can continue to do that and appreciate the activity that is being made available to the young people of Marlborough.

PS I was a Town Councillor over twenty years ago when a Planning Enquiry was held to look at the proposal to build the Rugby Club House on the Common. I was pleased to have been Chairman of the Recreation Committee at the time and to have seen the proposal get the go ahead in spite of “vehement” opposition.
