It starts at 4.00pm – Sunday tea time. For those not bringing a picnic, the Friends of the Band will be selling tea and cakes and there will be a grand raffle with a £100 first prize.
The event is free, but there will be bucket collection – it will be a pretty big bucket. All proceeds go to help the championship section band continue competing at high level contests and to encourage youngsters in the Training Band.
The band is looking for a sponsor – or sponsors – to help them continue their prize-winning ways. Taking part in area, regional or national competitions is not a cheap exercise.
Music parts, transport and sometimes accommodation are costs that add up when you have a thirty-plus piece band.
It is a busy time of year for the band: on Sunday, September 7 the band will be an important part of the closing day of Aldbourne’s carnival.
And they will be taking part in two new concerts in September: “Oh what a lovely Prom” with the Military Wives choir at the Steam Museum, Swindon (September 20) – raising money for Help for Heroes. They will be at St Bartholomew’s School in Newbury (September 27) for a Grieg Concert.
