How  James Townsend, of Black African Heritage became MP for West Looe, controversial Lord Mayor of London, and MP for Calne.  Townsend led a remarkable life and had significant Wiltshire connections.

The Marlborough History Society supports local history projects and  presents talks by respected speakers on the third Thursday of every month (with the exception of  June, July, August and December) at 7:30 p.m. at St Peter’s Church.  We also organise occasional outings.
