Marlborough’s new café restaurant to focus on healthy eating and wellbeing

Eliane, a new café restaurant opens at 8 am on Thursday September 24 in Hughenden Yard. Owner Rafia Willmott is excited to share the healthy organic menu with customers. The Hungerford branch of Eliane opened over six years ago and in Sunningdale, near Ascot just over four years ago.

Rafia told Marlborough.news, “More and more people are becoming conscious eaters. A lot of food is corrupted, brought long distances and is full of additives and preservatives. When I started Eliane’s I just wanted to create a place where customers would know categorically that they could eat with confidence, where their bodies would thank them and where it would bring a smile to their faces.

All our food is organic and based on an alkaline diet. We have three chefs and make almost everything on site, even ketchup. We eliminate dairy and gluten using healthy alternatives instead.

We have an extensive brunch menu and offer juices and smoothies specially designed for health and wellbeing. There’s also our indulgent cake menu but even these won’t harm you.”

Rafia designs a new lunch menu with flavours from around the world every week. There is plenty of choice for vegetarians and meat and fish eaters are catered for as well.

Based in the former Movida Café premises in Hughenden Yard Rafia hopes to create a tropical oasis from the High Street by making full use of the extensive outdoor space. She has already installed tree ferns and has plans to install heaters for the winter months. If anyone has any large plants they would like to donate to the oasis she would be pleased to hear from you.

She is, she says, “Very nervous about starting the restaurant in Covid times. But I feel the pandemic has made everyone more aware about looking after their bodies. People want a better choice and hopefully we will fill a gap in the market.”

Rafia is hoping to appeal to St John’s and Marlborough College students by offering a 25% discount on the lunch menu and burritos.

Eliane is open from 8 am to 5pm seven days a week. There is also a Takeaway Menu and bespoke catering. Customers don’t have to book but bookings can be taken.
