Men are too frequently overlooked regarding how they are feeling, what’s going on underneath the surface and only too frequently, hidden. Over the years when it comes to how men feel about themselves, their mental health, they have been ignored as it’s always been assumed that they ‘are fine’.
‘Man Up’ was a standard saying, almost command to anyone who might not have been feeling great. Did that help? Probably not.
‘Man Down’ is reality. And the name of a movement that is here to help.
Men are prone to mental challenges just as the rest of society are and ‘Man Down’ was founded a few years back to enable men to talk, in an informal, safe and non-judgemental relaxed environment about what is important to them. Their struggles, their lives and their challenges.
‘Man Down’ is now in Marlborough, meeting regularly where men from the Marlborough area can talk, openly in a peer-led supportive group. Suicides amongst the male population is high and ‘Man Down’ is here to help.
Man Down UK is a non-profit Community Interest Company founded in Cornwall, dedicated to supporting men with mental health challenges. Since it started the number of groups and areas covered has increased. Still mainly in the South West the current forty-four groups meet fortnightly and in Marlborough it’s every two weeks at the Marlborough Town Football Club clubhouse in Elcot Lane, starting at 7pm and running for a couple of hours.
Meetings are free, no booking or reservation required and men are invited to come and listen, talk. To share with no pressure or obligation. It’s down to you.
Next meeting is on Monday 9 February and every fortnight thereafter.
