With the Rugby World Cup due to start next month and with the Home Nations expected to do well, what better time to look years forward to the tournaments of the 2020s and sow the seeds of success for these competitions now.
Marlborough Rugby Club will be playing their part in this long term goal. Their Summer Camp for 6-16 year olds starts on Monday next week (24 August) and runs until Friday (28 August). It will consist of fun based rugby activities, offering an introduction to the sport for complete newcomers to something a bit more sophisticated for those who already play.
All coaching will be by qualified RFU coaches, but on Tuesday and Wednesday England Ladies’ fly half, Ceri Large will join in and show that achieving international recognition has to start somewhere, and what better place than MRFC’s Summer Camp.
The Camp runs from 9 to 5 every day and costs £25 for each full day and £15 for a half day. Children just need packed lunch, snacks and a drink and suitable clothing for the weather, plus a gum shield. For more details click here.
The Club’s strapline is ‘Rugby for the whole family’, so as soon as the Summer Camp finishes it’s the turn of the adults when the annual Beer Festival starts. The recently enlarged Clubhouse bar will be hosting twenty guest beers and ciders and starts on Friday evening at 7pm and runs throughout the weekend ending on Sunday evening. There will be bands playing so the weekend promises to be one where all members of the family can enjoy the latest facilities.
One new addition, in time for the World Cup is a 3 meter wide screen which will show every World Cup match live. The Clubhouse will be open for all matches and everyone is welcome to come and watch matches in the best place in town to watch sport.
This is all before the season properly gets underway, which starts with a home fixture for the 1st XV against Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday 12 September.
