Great Bedwyn CE School has launched a fund raising initiative called ‘A Penny for Your Thoughts’ in order to provide an emotional well-being classroom.
In a letter to parents, Headteacher Michelle Perrett said, “The Department for Education has found that, on average, children with higher levels of emotional, behavioural, social and school well-being had higher levels of academic achievement and were more engaged in school.
Evidence shows that mental health initiatives in schools can lead to significant improvements in children’s mental health, social and emotional skills and reductions in classroom misbehaviour, anxiety and frustration. Currently at Great Bedwyn CE School we have interventions in place to support children’s positive mental health but we want to develop this further.”
The first major fund raising event for the new emotional well-being classroom will be a Spring Ball on May 16 in Marlborough Town Hall. Tickets cost £65 per person and include a three course dinner and entertainment from a live band – “The Benedicts”.
The school would be grateful for any donations of raffle or auction prizes .
