A momentous and prestigious international award was bestowed on Elaine Ferry of Marlborough’s Elaine’s Travel last week at the TTNG (The Travel Network Group) conference in Munich. She had no idea that she was up for any award, it was just a trip to attend an important trade conference. But Elaine’s journey to Munich and back to the conference, which ended up with picking up an award – the ‘World Class Customer Service Award’ – would have left many others in the travel trade saying ‘Ummmmm…..?’. It was ‘one of those’…..
All started out well. To Heathrow for the 7am flight to Munich. Cancelled. Then to Birmingham (leaving the car in the most expensive, but convenient car park) to just catch the 08:55 from Birmingham International to Munich. Cancelled. As was the next flight at 10:45. No other Munich options so then an alternative strategy came into play – via Frankfurt. Booked on to the 13:55 from Birmingham, but that was delayed by two hours so, eventually, Elaine arrived in Frankfurt, arranged a car from Frankfurt to Munich, arriving there at 11:30 in the evening. A long day, Marlborough to Munich in not much under twenty hours!
But she arrived, and that is Elaine doing what Elaine does best, and why she was awarded the top award for Customer Service. But in this case she was the customer…..
Thankfully the return on Wednesday from Munich to Marlborough was a bit less stressful, other than having to get from Heathrow to Birmingham to pick up the car, and having to negotiate any ‘excess baggage’ fee for the award in the suitcase!
But the award: Elaine told marlborough.news: “I was shocked and honoured to receive such a prestigious accolade from people in my profession. Having no idea, I was even up for an award made the horrendous journey all worthwhile”.
