
The Wilton Windmill Society is looking for volunteers for the annual spring clean of the windmill. This will be taking place on Sunday 2nd April 2023.
A spokesman for the society commented, “This is always a very sociable occasion, and as we prepare the mill for opening during the 2023 season, this year we have decided to offer a free BBQ lunch for those who volunteer. If you can help us out from 10am onwards we would love to see you, but please can you let us know that you are coming along so that we can cater accordingly, by emailing: windymiller@marlboroughwilts.com
No specific skills are required as the tasks to be undertaken are wide ranging as indicated in the list below. If you can bring any tools, equipment or consumables along to help with your intended task it would be appreciated.”
Probable tasks include:
- WD40 all door and window hinges. Mill and granary.
- WD40 all locks and combination locks on mill, granary and gate.
- Oil all doors, gear teeth and stair handrails.
- Cut back any undergrowth on site, along the drive and under the hut steps.
- Cut back ivy around road gate sign.
- Repaint the hut steps black and wipe down bins, shelves etc.
- Remove Cobwebs from all floors.
- Clean windows (we have a device to help clean the outsides on the upper floors)
- Sweep/vacuum all floors.
- Touch up any whitewash on the internal walls. (Best done before sweeping the floors!)
- Wipe down and clean ground floor display boards.
- Refit all TVs and check they run the videos properly.
- Clean up the granary.
- Clean up shepherds hut and clean windows.
- Oiling the fan-stage woodwork
- Refitting and assembling the millstones, vat and horse.
- Re-arrange the notices on the old outside notice board and clean glass inside and out.
- Put new notices on new notice board. Swap notices around if necessary. Some tools will be necessary. (Staple gun, jigs saw, sandpaper, screws, pliers, etc)
- Cooking a BBQ for the volunteers
