At Monday’s meeting of the Town Council Planning Committee, Councillors confirmed their agreement to contribute towards the installation of handrails for the very exposed steps that extend up the raised banks on either side from roadway to path level at the top.
These steps, exposed and without any support so difficult for residents of all ages, particularly the older residents, have been a source of potential danger for many years – decades. And there have been accidents in the past, but with the addition of the handrails on either side the danger should be reduced and the steps usable by more residents.
This was reported in January of last year and finally commitment and expenditure agreement has been sorted. The overall cost will be £4,000, most of which will come from Wiltshire Council but £1,000 will come from Marlborough Town Council.
When will the handrails be installed? No date has been confirmed as yet, but now that the expenditure required has been agreed from identified budgets, it should not be too long.
