Marlborough is showing its support for the people of Ukraine. The situation is developing quickly and the latest update has just been posted on the Town council website
The site states: ‘We really would encourage residents who want to support the people of Ukraine to do so by donating financially to an established charity rather than donating goods’.
The emphasis here is on the importance of financial donations rather than just goods, although the Town Council will take donated goods for forward movement to Ukraine and the area where those fleeing the war are moving to.
Financial – why? The funds given to the Ukraine Disaster Emergency Committee Appeal (DEC) go to charities who will be able to get those funds committed to providing exactly what is needed, where and when for the greatest benefit of the refugees. And the Government will match all the funding given, so donate £20 and the Government will do the same.
The Town council website (link above) lists the charities that can accept donations, and a link to the DEC where donations can be made that will be matched by the Government This page also gives details of what items can be donated, and to where for those wishing to donate items rather than money.
