If an accident is so serious that patients need on-the-spot surgery that paramedics and ambulance responders cannot undertake, they call on SWIFT Medics. These ‘doctors’ are experienced surgeons and anaesthetists who offer their services in their free time – bringing A&E skills to the roadside.
The charity needs to appoint two new doctors and equipping them (with car adaptations such as communications gear and lights etc) and training them (blue light driving courses etc) will cost £20,000.
Each year SWIFT Medics are called to over 200 medical emergencies involving around 300 patients. Each attendance costs on average £75 – to fund this, plus their equipment and training, we rely entirely on the public and receive no funding from the NHS.
To raise this sum the charity’s trustees are organising a mightily impressive auction – partly online and partly to be held at an evening event on November 18 – 6.45pm to 9pm at The Marlborough. SWIFT Medics trustee Bob Holman told marlborough.news: “Jason Kalen, the owner of The Marlborough, in Marlborough High Street, has kindly donated his entire facility to us, for the night.”
Among the auction list is a unique, never been previously available tour for twelve of The Goldsmith’s Guild fabulous headquarters London. The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths is one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London. It was founded in 1327 – and is still the premier charity for training goldsmiths and leads a ‘unique community for design, creativity and craftmanship’.
Also waiting for bids on the evening will be an exclusive David Dudley branded watch, a week at a villa sleeping six at La Quinta Club at La Manga, Spain – with subsidised golf plus buggies, an evening of astronomical wonders at the Marlborough College observatory, watching the very early morning gallops at Roger Charlton’s Beckhampton stables – and then breakfast, a day’s fishing for two at a private estate on the River Kennet at Ramsbury…and much more besides.
Some of the star attractions are only available for online bids. These include six nights in the Zulu Nyala Game Reserve, seven nights skiing in Transylvania, a weekend break at the Monaco Grand Prix, a luxury golf day at Turnberry…and more.
Oh, and if you are fed up with opening tins of baked beans for the family, you can bid for a personal chef to cook at your home for up to ten people. Bliss!
Details of the online auction are here… and it’s also the place to start the bidding.
