On Monday evening (17 April) for Marlborough Mayor Lisa Farrell it was a quick (or not that quick) stop at the ‘Burj at The Bell’ on the A4 at West Overton to cut the ribbon and declare it open for business, and then on to Marlborough to chair the Town’s Annual General Meeting at The Town Hall.
West Overton’s ‘Burj’ is the second in this area, and also the second to have previously been a pub. The Burj’ at Foxhill crossroads, Wanborough was formerly the ‘Shepherd’s Rest’, but for the past few years has become a very successful and popular restaurant, offering ‘exceptional Indian cuisine’. And now those of us in Marlborough and the villages of the West Kennet Valley have our own ‘Burj’.
Swapan Roy of the ‘Burj at The Bell’ is keen to retain the values and tradition of The Bell, a popular local to many in the area and it will be open for anyone coming in for a drink most evenings, but possibly not Friday or Saturday which will be the likely busiest dining times with most, if not all of the seventy or so seats filled. The terrace overlooking The Kennet and the meadows, with West Overton in the distance should be an attractive spot on a warm summer’s evening.
A new chapter starts in the life of West Overton’s revered and famed Bell, but with a South Asian and Indian twist…..
