Angus Macpherson, Wiltshire’s 61-year-old Police and Crime Commissioner, who suffered what is believed to be a heart attack last week, is now described as “stable and improving” in the Intensive Care Unit of the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
Mr Angus Macpherson was flown by air ambulance to the hospital last Friday morning after being taken ill during an official engagement in Trowbridge.
Pat Geenty, Wiltshire’s chief constable, visited Mr Macpherson’s family at the hospital yesterday (Thursday).
“The Commissioner has been sitting up in bed and talking to his family,” he told Marlborough News Online. “His condition is now described as ‘stable and improving’.
“I passed on to the family the best wishes of all at Wiltshire Police for a speedy recovery. They asked me to thank the many well-wishers who have sent messages.”
Mr Macpherson was taken ill while visiting Dr Andrew Murrison, MP for South West Wiltshire, at his constituency offices in Trowbridge.
The visit was part of a round of meetings he had organised a with Wiltshire and Swindon MPs to brief them on the contents of his annual report.
