Ian Tucker, current principal of St John’s Marlborough and Alan Henderson, who joins St John’s as the new principal in September 2023, have been meeting over the last few weeks to ensure a smooth transition for all staff and students.
Ian Tucker commented, “I have been grateful for the opportunity to meet with Alan to discuss St John’s, and the journey the school has been on over the last few years. It has been the greatest privilege to lead such an incredible school, but it feels the right time for me to take the opportunity to become a Chief Executive Officer. Although I am excited about this new opportunity, I am sad to leave a school that has made the most indelible mark on me. There is something quite incredible about the community that St John’s serves and the place it has with Excalibur Academies Trust. I look forward to hearing about how St John’s continues to go from strength to strength.”
Alan Henderson said “I am really looking forward to taking up my new position at St John’s in September, and hope to meet all our students, staff, and school families as soon as possible to outline my ideas and plans for the future. It has been really useful to be able to spend time in school during Ian Tucker’s final few weeks as principal, and to meet with him and other staff to observe St John’s day-to-day working and hear the views of so many members of the school family”
Alan Henderson has a 25-year career in education, which he began as a History teacher. St John’s Marlborough will be his third Headship, including four years at John O’Gaunt Hungerford, followed by four years at Melksham Oak School. A family man, Mr Henderson is married with two children age 16 and 21 and two cocker spaniels. He lives in Salisbury and enjoys skiing, running and watching sport, especially rugby and cricket.
From September 2023, Ian Tucker will become the CEO of the Magna Learning Partnership in Salisbury, having been Principal of St John’s for almost five years which included leading the school through the Covid-19 crisis. He also oversaw the planning and construction of the new sports hall which was completed in 2022 and is proud of the high academic standards that St John’s continually seeks to deliver for all the students it serves.
