The scheme announced last week by Prospect Hospice and Great Western Hospital, which owns Savernake Hospital and is giving the space for centre free of charge. However, the scheme needs to raise £75,000 to complete its funding so it can open next summer.
The centre will support patients in need of end-of-life care – and their families. It will also be the base for the two Prospect community nurses who will bring care to people in their own homes.
The Friends of Savernake Hospital and the Community is a charity that supports organisations and individuals involved in healthcare both at Savernake Hospital and in the wider Marlborough area and surrounding villages.
Recent grants include £1,000 of new physiotherapy equipment for the Falls Clinic at Savernake Hospital and similar financial support for social outings and entertainment provided at the Jubilee Centre in Marlborough.

She is delighted the Friends have been able to make this fundraising challenge: “It’s up to the community to think small with fundraising coffee mornings…or think big – as big as you can!”
Richard Hammond, the man in charge of raising funds for the Prospect Hospice, is thrilled the Friends have made this matching offer: “We greatly welcome this support, and feel more confident that it will rally the people of Marlborough and the surrounding villages to bring Prospect Hospice’s unparalleled care closer for patients and carers in their area.”
And Dr Guy Rooney, GWH’s medical director, told Marlborough News Online: “We are delighted to be working with Prospect Hospice to bring end-of-life care closer to home for patients and families in and around Marlborough. The service will make a massive difference to local people and is just one of the ways we are making care more accessible to people across Wiltshire.”
