It has taken many years for this project to reach fruition. Originally inspired in 2011 by the then Mayor, Edwina Fogg, (at an early stage they acquired the epithet ‘Fogg’s Bogs’) the reopening of this facility means that there will again be two public conveniences in the central area of Marlborough.
Much refurbishment has been carried out to the basement area of the Town Hall which has now been converted to create much-needed storage areas, an office for the Caretaker and of course this very welcome public convenience.
It is a unisex facility with access for standard wheelchair users as well. Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to adapt the unit to be able to take mobility scooters due to the building’s listed building status, but the newly developed public convenience block in the George Lane car park is designed to accept scooters.
The new Town Hall toilet also offers baby changing facilities as well. It will be open, seven days a week between 8am and 8pm but inflation has run riot with the idea of ‘spending a penny’ as a twenty-fold increase means that each visit will cost 20p.
