Preshute Primary School in Manton marked World Book Day(March 6) with a fun-filled and engaging series of activities for pupils and their families. The day began with a delightful “Reading Breakfast,” generously donated by Tesco in Marlborough, where families gathered to enjoy breakfast together in a relaxed, literary atmosphere.
After breakfast, students participated in a lively character parade under the sunshine, with staff selecting a winner from each class. Teachers then swapped classes to share stories, with popular books like The Borrowers by Mary Norton, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, and The Wonky Donkey by Craig Smith capturing the children’s imaginations. Pupils also took part in exciting book quizzes, one of which was even led by Headteacher Claire Hann-Perkins’s dog, Baymax!
The afternoon saw the school come together for a special World Book Day assembly, where Year 6 librarians led the children in a fun re-telling of Julia Donaldson’s A Squash and a Squeeze, supported by the school staff! The assembly concluded with the announcement of the winners of the character jar competition, with the entries soon to be displayed at the White Horse Bookshop.
Ella Palin, the school’s reading lead, expressed her satisfaction with the day’s events: “It was wonderful to see the children enjoying literature in so many different ways. A huge thank you to the parents and local organisations who helped make this event such a success!”
