At a presentation ceremony at the Jubilee Centre, former chairman Alec Stevens handed over cheques to nine good causes, including £1,000 to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal; a total bolstered by an award to the charity from Friends chairman Audrey Peck, the instigator of their spring and summer monthly Marlborough Common boot fairs, for a further £4,000.
Awards of £500 each went to the Prospect Hospice and Naomi House Children’s Hospice, while The Community Bus, Marlborough & District Link Scheme, the Bobby Van, the Jubilee Centre, Greatwood Charity, and Charlie’s Charity each received £250.
A special presentation of £500 for a memorial bench to honour the late Vicki Philpott nee Gray, who died in March aged 48, for her services to Marlborough Carnival and other community initiatives was made to her widower Ian and their two daughters.
