St Michael’s Cof E VA Primary School in Aldbourne formally added a valuable extra facility to the school resources this morning (6 October), a new Outside Learning Centre.
Pupils and parents celebrated the school’s annual Harvest Festival service first thing at neighbouring St Michael’s Church and afterwards were welcomed by Headteacher Judith Arkwright outside the new building for the opening ceremony.
She told Marlborough.news: “It is fantastic to be able to share with everyone our Outside Learning Centre which is already making a huge difference to the school. It is being used for meetings, classes, brass ensembles and next week we will use it to host our annual Continuous Provision teaching course. We are eternally grateful for all the work the school and wider community have done to support us in raising funds for this wonderful building and it was a brilliant occasion today to mark the opening of this special space”.
Prior to the cutting of the ribbon, Reverend Sue Rodd of St Michael’s Church blessed the new building and then the eldest and youngest children in the school cut the ribbon to mark the Outside Learning Centre officially open.
The school’s PTA have worked tirelessly to raise funds needed for the building. Sponsorship money raised from school events including the annual “Welly Walk”, a festive fun run as well as silent auctions and school fairs. Post Covid, the PTA ran a crowdfunding campaign which was contributed to by the parents and the wider residents in Aldbourne and surrounding villages, demonstrating how important this wonderful school is to the community it sits within.
