Marlborough Hearing Specialists – Marlborough’s new audiology centre opened its doors properly today with Mayor, Lisa Farrell on hand to cut the tape and declare the centre open for business.
The new Marlborough centre came about through the success of the Swindon Hearing Specialists centre in Lotmead Business Village in Wanborough, on the Eastern edge of Swindon.
This new centre in Elcot Mews will be Marlborough’s only Audiology specialist centre. The decision to expand and open a new branch was inspired by owner Les Cavilla’s realisation that an increasing number of patients were coming from the Marlborough area.
Les told marlborough.news: “With this demand the time felt right to open a second clinic in Marlborough itself”. Adding: “as with Swindon, we want to maintain a personalised, professional service in Marlborough where all patients are treated individually and always get the after care they deserve.”
The new centre will offer a wide and comprehensive range of audiology services. It might just be supplying a hearing aid: but although that sounds simple, getting the right sort, fit, type – finding the most appropriate solution for each patient – is a far more complex and personal service, requiring specialist testing and analysis rather than just offering a simple hearing aid. But this is exactly what the new Marlborough centre, and what the current Swindon centre do.
Or, it might just be at the opposite end of the scale: a need for some way of providing noise protection – if, for example a motorcyclist, rock musician, or someone who works in an environment with dangerously high levels of noise that can damage hearing over time, the centre can provide that form of solution as well.
Les’s background is that of an Audiologist. After training and gaining the necessary qualifications at the City of Westminster College and then at Mary Hare (the UK’s largest school for deaf children) Les spent years in the NHS as a specialist Audiologist before going private, and then setting up the Swindon Hearing Specialist centre in Wanborough.
The equipment in the new Marlborough Centre is very specialist, an example being the ‘audio chair’ (pics below), a dedicated sound chamber where a patient can be tested in an environment where external background noise is reduced to the absolute minimum allowing an accurate programme of testing to be carried out.
