Nationwide’s cash point – or ATM – is back and working. Checked out and declared ‘open’ by Marlborough Mayor, Cllr Nick Fogg. Earlier this morning (Friday 3 May) Cllr Fogg visited the Nationwide branch on the North side of the High Street to make sure that the new machine was working OK and give it a ‘formal opening’.
With Branch Manager Bryan Rumbold and Marlborough PSCO Mark Braithwaite in attendance, Cllr Fogg successfully withdrew his cash, and also then commented to Marlborough.news on the importance of a bank branch on the High Street, and especially that Swindon-based Nationwide were staying. “Great that Nationwide are here for the next four years or more, demonstrating what a public-spirited organisation it is and hw it is thinking of the consumer.” Then adding: “The loss of visible bank branches is a real blow to the wellbeing of the community, all praise to Nationwide.”
This is in the light of the recent announcement that the last of the ‘big four’ High Street banks to have a branch in Marlborough – Lloyds – will be closing in November. But Nationwide are staying.
A Nationwide spokesperson told Marlborough.news: “Access to cash is really important and that is why we are really pleased that our ATM is now back and in full working order following an ATM attack at the beginning of the year. We think customers should have choice in how they bank with us. As a result, we have also renewed our promise that anywhere we have a branch we will stay until at least 2028. We hope that reassures all our customers and those in Marlborough.”
The ATM was attacked at the end of January, a loss to the many customers who prefer to use that ATM for cash withdrawals, but all back and working now, with the Mayor’s seal of approval……
