After the sell-out success of its English Idyll concert in Malmesbury Abbey in April, Royal Wootton Bassett Orchestra returns to RWB for a summer concert on July 15, 7.30pm in the Sixth Form Centre of RWB Academy, SN4 7HG. The concert, entitled, ‘Music for a Summer’s Evening’ will be an orchestral showcase of music from light classics, film and pop and will feature the world premiere of a chamber suite composed by Mike Beale, a local composer and musician.
Originally written for a small group of musicians, Mike Beale re-worked his Chamber Suite in lockdown creating full orchestration. Inspired by Scottish folk rhythms the suite is melodic with four contrasting movements. Mike said, “I’m very excited that such a good orchestra as RWBO will be the first to play this piece in public.”
The summer concert will also showcase some soloists from the orchestra for this very relaxing, easy listening evening. See how many well-known proms tunes you can recognise in ‘Jubilee Clips’, and in Radio 4 UK Themes. Singalong with Abba and Bacharach medleys. Drift away with Masseney’s Meditation or Delibes’s The Flower Duet. Enter the world of film with Big Country and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Wine and chilled soft drinks will be served in the interval. Tickets are £10 (Under 16’s free) and available from the orchestra’s website www.rwbo.org.uk .
