The Marlborough Tennis Club Championships, sponsored by Fine & Country, reached their climax on Saturday 17th September with an entertaining afternoon of excellent Finals Day tennis played out in full sunshine.
Competition was fierce but friendly with many finals going to a deciding third set tie break.
The doubles competitions saw the closest of matches with the Men’s Doubles being edged by Dave Harvey-Evers and Tom Kiggell who beat Neil Emery and Charlie Smith 5-7, 7-5, 10-6. In the Ladies Doubles a similar tight contest saw Kath More and Melissa Brown overcome Amabel Harvey-Evers and Rosie Scott 2-6, 7-6, 10-8. In the Mixed Doubles, Tom Kiggell repeated his Men’s Doubles victory, this time with partner Rosie Scott, with a 6-3, 6-1 straight sets beating of Neil Emery and Melissa Brown.
This was not to be Neil Emery’s day, but very much Tom Kiggell’s. In a third losing final, Neil succumbed to three times champion Tom whose 6-1, 6-1 win in the Men’s Singles belies a closely fought contest.
Ed Taylor of Fine & Country, who sponsored this year’s championships, presented trophies and prizes to winners and runners up.
