Inspired by their Personal, Social, Health and Economic(PSHE) lessons, Year 6 pupils at Marlborough St Mary’s held a sponsored run and raised £580 for Cancer Research. The cheque was presented to Cancer Research a few days ago.
Teacher, Gemma Harris, told Marlbrough.news, “In our PSHE lessons, Heron class (Year 6) have been learning about the problems that people face in the world. We then discussed the different charities around the world and how these charities help people in need. The children were given the challenge to work together to help make the world a better place. They voted for their chosen charity – Cancer Research UK and decided to challenge themselves to complete a sponsored run.
The children ran a range of distances from 2K to 5K with lots surpassing their original target distance. They displayed fantastic determination and excellent stamina.
Since the run, they have been collecting in their sponsorships and a few days ago, we were delighted to present Cancer Research with an incredible donation of £580.”
