On Saturday, July 13, Marlborough’s Walking Rugby team attended the Kingswood Titans Festival, a Walking Rugby event featuring 44 team – a world first.
How did Marlborough fare? Very well. Not quite a ‘stroll in the park’, nor did they manage a ‘walk over’, but overall a day of achievement with just one (very) narrow defeat in the whole day.
In their opening match against Melksham, Marlborough secured victory with four tries to one. Facing Wimbledon next, they rallied from an initial deficit to win by five tries to one.
The third group stage match pitted Marlborough against Llangennech Globetrotters, who were a formidable opponent. Despite a close contest, Llangennech prevailed with five tries to Marlborough’s four. Undeterred, Marlborough then dominated the Nailsea Silver Ravens, winning five tries to nil. The opposition couldn’t deal with Marlborough’s drop ball strategy.
Next up, Marlborough faced Kingswood RFC Seniors, Marlborough triumphed six tries to four, despite the young lads spirited pink fancy dress, the old Marlborough boys and Sian quickly put them back in their place.
In Marlborough’s final group match, they were up against Gloucester Relics. Marlborough fought hard, and it was a close-run thing, but Marlborough just managed to take the win. Marlborough were only prepared to accept one defeat this day.
Overall a fun-filled day of rugby, camaraderie, and making new connections. The team eagerly awaits next year’s festival, hoping to help break another world record. Stroll on……..
