Last night, just as the sun set Ninna Gibson (Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire) and Marlborough Mayor Lisa Farrell set light to Marlborough’s Beacon on The Common, one of more than 1,500 beacons being lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and in capital cities of the Commonwealth to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
The lighting was preceded by a bagpipe rendition of ‘Diu Regenare’, played by Piper Lance Corporal Bowtell, and the playing of ‘Majesty’, by Marlborough Cornet player Scott Grainger of St John’s Academy.
The Marlborough Community Choir also sang ‘A Life Lived with Grace’ as a unique musical tribute to the queen.
The Beacon was lit at 9.45pm.
