Although the cash machine was very badly damaged, the offender – or offenders – failed to gain access to any money.
Police were called about this attempted theft at 3.23am on Tuesday (August 9.)

However, it is believed another nearby security camera was missed – though it is not clear whether it was in operation and if it was it may only have seen the backs of the person or persons setting the fire.
Acting Det Sgt Phillippa Sharpley said: “Some people were seen in the area at the time and we would like them to come forward to help us with our enquiries. Also, if you saw or heard anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously in this area at this time – please contact me.”
Anyone able to help the police with their investigation should contact A/Det Sgt Phillippa Sharpley at Swindon CID on the freephone 101 number – or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
