What did you do on a Saturday morning, many years ago when you were young(!), and it was (probably) too wet, cold or unpleasant to go out and kick a ball around or ride the bike.
You went to the Cinema. Sat down, engulfed in the almost magical environment of great sound and that super silver screen….. That was how many of us grew up with the Cinema, watching films on the large screen that dominated everything you could see with the all enveloping sound offering something that no television at home could ever compete with.
And, there was the popcorn, soft fizzy drinks (not going to get caught out naming brands), all of which was consumed in probably far too great quantities and made you feel ill, but what an experience, one to savour and look forward to every weekend…… Even now with great surround sound and a massive LED screen at home, nothing can still capture the all consuming magic of the Saturday Morning Cinema.
And that’s what Marlborough’s new Parade Cinema is looking to recreate, giving the younger members of the community a bit of that never-to-be forgotten glorious magic of the big silver screen and the Cinema experience.
The Parade Cinema is running a ‘Kids’ Club’ every Saturday morning. Bringing the cinema to the kids, or in reality bringing the kids to the cinema. They will be showing ‘slightly older’ favourite films that the family will enjoy at only £3 per ticket (or free for under-2s, so long as they sit on mum or dad’s lap).
Forthcoming screenings will include ‘Paw Patrol’ (on 30 October) and Tom & Jerry on the following Saturday (6 November).
To kick off the Kids’ Club they organised a competition for new young members to design a logo for the club – the brief was make it original, colourful and informative.
A big response, lots of entries and five were selected to go through to the final short list. As well as being able to say ‘I did that’ every time they visit the cinema all of the finalists have been given a family ticket to Kids’ Club with pizza, popcorn and a drink – not bad for showing off a bit of creative talent.

David Williams, Parade Cinema General Manager told malborough.news: “I loved all the designs. It was great to hear from so many younger members of our community and all the ideas were fantastic. Our Kids’ Club is a great way to enjoy family films and experience The Parade Cinema – we are open to everyone and hope that all our local families will be able to come and visit soon”.
Visit The Parade Cinema website to book tickets and there are plenty of snacks (yes, popcorn and fizzy drinks as well as ice cream, sweets and plenty of treats) to buy at the cafe to enjoy whilst watching the film.
Make Saturday mornings magic…… again!
