For the second year running the children of Kennet Valley School participated in what has been called a ‘Reverse Twelve Days of Christmas’. Instead of opening an advent calendar and receiving a gift, the children were encouraged to donate specific food and toiletry items. These were passed on to the Trussell Trust food bank in Devizes.
Suzanne Parnell-Dunn, School Bursar, told Marlborough.news, “The children, parents and local residents all responded amazingly well. They very quickly filled the twelve baskets with items, exceeding last year’s impressive collection. 344 items were donated.
Teaching assistant, Sam France, together with four pupils, delivered the items directly to the food bank. There they were shown around and told how the food bank works.
Emma Russell, is the Headteacher of Kennet Valley, “Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy and celebration, but unfortunately for many people it is becoming increasingly difficult with more people than ever expected to need to use a food bank during the festive period.”
“This is precisely why the Kennet Valley community have come together, as we feel that it is important that we all understand that there are people less fortunate than ourselves. We should all do our bit to try to help where we can, especially at this special time of the year”.
