The Winter 2014 issue of Your Wiltshire Magazine is dropping through Marlborough’s letterboxes this week – courtesy of Wiltshire Council.
Do not worry that it makes no mention of Marlborough Town Council’s Christmas lights switch-on event and the Marlborough Communities Christmas market.
You can rest assured that Marlborough’s biggest ever switch-on event – with the High Street closed for the crowds from 5.00pm to 8.00pm – is happening and it’s happening on Friday, November 21.
The magazine does mention similar events in Devizes, Chippenham and Westbury – and is careful to give their dates.
The magazine also contains a cut-out and keep “One hour Christmas parking voucher” which is “Valid for as many visits as you like between 16-24 December 2014.”
But beware! The voucher can only be used for an extra hour – once you have already paid at least one hour’s parking charges. Perhaps it should be called the “One extra hour Christmas parking voucher”.
Remember you cannot use the voucher on its own to cover a single hour’s parking. Even though the little golden label on the voucher says “One hour free”.
Not even the trailer on the front cover makes it absolutely clear: “FREE extra Christmas parking.” And the parking staff will be on their toes to make sure you use the voucher as the smaller print says you can.
And do not be confused by the magazine’s photo of the Tour of Britain cycle race passing over Pewsey’s painted bridge – the cyclist is going in the wrong direction. He must have been a spectator in full cycling gear!
