Hannah braves the shave to benefit two cancer charities

Yesterday, courtesy of Goldsworthy’s Hair Stylists, seventeen-year-old Marlborough College student, Hannah Keighley, had her head shaved to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK. She is donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust who provide free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. So far Hannah has raised nearly £10K for Bowel Cancer UK through sponsorship. If you would like to make a donation go to Hannah’s Just Giving page here.

Hannah said, “In August last year, my mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer. In the face of really hard times she is still so positive and is such an inspiration to me. I find it so hard not to be able to make it better, whilst seeing her go through so much. By raising funds, I hope to help all those who are coping with bowel cancer as well as preventing many more people from suffering from this terrible disease.”

Andrea (Hannah’s mum), Pete(dad), Mimi(sister), granny Biz and friends, Tabitha and Amelia were all there to witness hair stylist, Heidi, carry out the head shave. Hannah is grateful to Goldsworthys for carrying out the shave for no charge.

The whole family and friends told Marlborough.news how proud they are of Hannah. Amelia said, “She is an inspiration to us all,” while sister Mimi commented, “She’s amazing and very brave. She’s a role model and I look up to her.”

Dad Pete even joined in with the shaving, “I’m so glad Hannah’s come to join the follicly challenged club,” he quipped.

Mum Andrea said, “I’m unbelievably proud. To make such a decision at seventeen, when most young people are very body conscious, and a decision she will have to live with for at least two years is very brave. Hannah has huge amounts of empathy and has found it difficult to just stand by and watch me go through painful processes. The fact that I haven’t lost my hair because not everyone on chemo does shows she’s doing this for everyone.”
