Before the belly dance, Mayor Mervyn was a little apprehensive. He told Marlborough.news, “I might put my back out. I don’t think men are built for doing this !”
After a few hip wiggles, twizzles, hand waving and shaking it all about he said, “I think I need a drink now.”

Belly dancing was just one of the many activities on offer at Savernake View to mark National Care Home Open Day. The activities celebrated the role of art in care.
The day began with a talk from Julian Unthank, screenwriter for the TV series ‘Doc Martin’. Local artists Colin Palmer, Diane Urwin and Kate Wade exhibited throughout the day. Twenty children aged between six and twelve from Marlborough Stagecoach Performing Arts School sang and danced.
The day ended with a cheese and wine reception and the belly dancing ladies trio. Sharon Villegas, Business Development Manager at Savernake View, said, “The day has been a great success. We’ve had such a wide range of activities that have been enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. It’s been great to have the support of the Mayor.”
