The final go ahead for The Crown Estate’s plans to build 175 new residential units on land opposite Marlborough Business Park has been given by Wiltshire Council.
The plans, which also include a 60 bed hotel, received final sign off from the council on Friday, July 29.
A resolution to grant planning permission for the scheme was issued in February and since then The Crown Estate has been working with the council to agree a package of development benefits for the local area. Now this process has been completed, the council has granted planning permission for the development.
The Crown Estate is now marketing the site to find a development partner to take the project forward.
The scheme will see 175 residential units constructed, 40 percent of which will be affordable. In addition, the development will see a contribution of more than £700,000 for local secondary school, St Johns Academy, alongside investment in local traffic infrastructure and more than £100,000 for local GP services.
The landowner said the new development will also provide a valuable economic contribution to Marlborough by providing employment opportunities, both during the construction of the scheme and in the new hotel once the development is completed, and boosting the number of people that visit the town.
Steve Melligan, strategic land manager at The Crown Estate, which owns the site, said: “We are pleased that these plans have been given the go ahead by the council and the process of finding a developer to take the scheme forward is already underway.
“This consent is a prime example of how we are continuing to unlock value from our UK wide rural land portfolio by promoting strategic land sites through the planning process.”
