‘Dave and Ewe’ arrived with a selection of llamas, goats, a pony, rare breed sheep, ducks rabbits and guinea pigs giving the children a chance to see, touch and understand farm animals in a controlled and safe environment.
The garden area in front of the Church Hall was arranged with mobile barriers and pens and the children were able to wander around and meet all of the animals.
“It’s about introducing children to animals” explained Dave Buscombe who runs the ‘Dave and Ewe’ community farm in Rowde, just outside Devizes. “Animals are different to humans, but caring for animals isn’t that much different to caring for each other” he added, “and we hope to help the children learn respect for the environment in which they live and to care”
‘Dave and Ewe’ visit many schools, pre-schools, kids clubs but also an increasing number of birthday parties as well. “It’s not just schools and children that we visit” added Dave, “but also we take our animals to dementia units, disabled centres and care homes as well…. and the old will enjoy our animals just as much as the young, a fantastic therapeutic experience”.
