The Christchurch building and the attached Wesley Hall in New Road, formerly Christchurch Methodist Church, has been sold to Emmanuel Church, Marlborough. The Methodist congregation, which has met at this site for over 100 years and has been a presence in the town for 200 years will continue to worship alongside the Anglican community within St Maryâs Church, Marlborough.
Reuben Mann, the pastor of Emmanuel Marlborough, told Marlborough.news, âEmmanuel Church began in 2015 as a group of Christians, especially young families, meeting initially at St Johnâs Academy, wanting to grow together in faith in Jesus Christ and to share that faith in Marlborough and beyond.
The pandemic compelled Emmanuel to take their message of Christian hope, not only online, but also out of doors with big community events such as, âCar Park Carolsâ at Tesco and a Jubilee fete at the Recreation Ground.
As restrictions lifted, the pandemic left this growing congregation without a venue, and Marlborough Methodists welcomed Emmanuel to meet in their building for Sunday afternoon services.
Over time, Emmanuel has developed several regular midweek Christian childrenâs and youth clubs in the Wesley Hall as well as busy weekly 4pm Sunday services with childrenâs groups. At these popular kidsâ clubs, parents and grandparents often say, âI used to come to a club here when I was a child.â
We are very thankful for the ministry of Christchurch over many years, for the hospitality they have shown us since the pandemic and for the opportunity to bid for and purchase their building. We hope to continue to serve the community from this venue by sharing our sure hope in Christ.â
