After raising a staggering £16,000 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Motor Neurone Disease with their 2020 Tractor’nTinsel run, Devizes Young Farmers are hoping this year’s event on Sunday December 19 will raise even more. Their 2021 chosen charities are Alzheimer’s Society and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Harry Stokes, Chair of Devizes Young Farmers, told Marlborough.news, “We were overwhelmed with the amazing response to our Tractor’nTinsel run last Christmas and incredibly proud of the amount raised. We’d like to raise even more money this year for our chosen charities. We hope more people will attend and we can have more fun and be more social as there are not as many Covid restrictions as last year. I want to thank our fabulous sponsors including T H Whites and Symonds and Sampson, Devizes, who are awarding the best dressed tractor and best dressed driver prizes.”
Last year 131 tractors took part, and Harry is hoping for at least 150 this year. The tractors will set off from T H Whites in Devizes at 10.30 am on Sunday December 19 and chug along through Rushall and Oare to a pit stop at St John’s Academy, Marlborough. Next they will visit Marlborough High Street before heading off to West Kennet and over Tan Hill to Stanton St Bernard, Horton and back to Devizes. There will be an optional night run around Devizes to show off all the twinkly lights festooning the tractors.
Cas Loudon, senior community engagement manager for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, said, “Events such as the Tractor’nTinsel Run help to generate vital funds for our lifesaving work and we look forward to seeing the stream of colour coming through Marlborough on 19 December. We can’t thank the Devizes Young Farmers and everyone who comes out to see the procession enough for their support.
We need to raise £4 million a year to keep the air ambulance flying to save lives. We receive no regular direct Government funding or National Lottery grants, so rely solely on generous donations from the public.”
Devizes Young Farmers have set up a Just Giving page and if you would like to donate please click here.
If you would like to participate in the event with your tractor a donation of £30 per tractor is required, £10 for a passenger. The price includes a drive thru burger and drink. A registration form can be found on Devizes Young Farmers Facebook page or email: devizesyoungfarmersclub@gmail.com. The deadline for registering is December 17.
