Preparations for Marlborough’s Christmas Day lunch, which this year will be home-delivered, are well underway. However, organiser, Vicky Ellis, would welcome more delivery drivers with their own cars and more gift donations.
Vicky told Marlborough.news, “I’d be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer to deliver the meals on Christmas Day and provide some welcome company, albeit at the doorstep. To anybody who has already shown interest I will be in contact with you this week.
Likewise, if you know of anyone alone this Christmas who’d like a lunch delivered, please get in touch. We have been overwhelmed with requests for this year, so it’s going to be a military operation to do this in the safest way possible.”
If anyone would like to donate gifts which will be delivered with the two course Christmas dinner Vicky says, “Gifts only need to be small for both men and women – a few examples are toiletry sets (eg. Handcream, nail files, body wash, body lotion) handkerchiefs, chocolates. That’s just a few ideas but I’m sure you’ll have better ones. A majority of our guests are elderly and don’t drink – so no alcohol. We suggest something to the value of around £3 as we don’t expect people to spend fortunes.”
Vicky and the Christmas lunch team are very grateful to all their sponsors. “Thanks to the incredible support of companies including Sumblers Butchers for the donation of the meats, Sue Brady Catering for allowing us to use their fantastic facilities to prepare the lunches, Tesco for the donation of the vegetables and many others.”
Vicky can be contacted on vellis@thomasmae.co.uk or send her a private message on Facebook Messenger. Small gifts can be dropped off at Land & New Homes Network’s offices based at Elcot Mews, Elcot Lane, Marlborough (near the football club).
